Dreamwave AI Alternative: When the Refund Ends at Upload
Dreamwave sells headshot packs from $35, but refunds stop once processing starts. Here's how to choose a tier, and when paying per image fits better.
On this page
Dreamwave sells a finished headshot gallery from one selfie, starting at $35, and its FAQ is plain that there are no refunds once your shoot starts processing. So the real choice is not about photo counts. It's how much you want to commit before you see a single result, and Dreamwave's answer to that is its redos, not its refund policy.
If you want someone else to produce a large gallery while you get on with your day, Dreamwave is a reasonable buy and this post explains how to choose the tier. If you'd rather check one image before paying for sixty, a pay-per-image studio is a different shape, and we make one.
Everything about Dreamwave below comes from its own pages, fetched on October 8, 2026. Check the checkout screen before paying; prices in this category move.
What Dreamwave sells
Dreamwave's pricing page lists three individual packages, each shown against a higher struck-through price:
Scroll horizontally to see all columns.
| Package | Price | Photos | Redos | Human touchups |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $35 (was $55) | 40 | None | None |
| Standard ("Most Popular") | $45 (was $65) | 60 | 1 free redo | None |
| Best Value | $99 (was $119) | 100 | 2 free redos | Unlimited |
Every package lists "1 selfie" as the input. The individual headshots page says "Just 1 clear photo," unedited and unfiltered, and promises "Start to gallery in about two hours." You keep every photo it generates, and the FAQ says the images are yours for personal or business use. The same page describes AI editing (outfit changes, background swaps, an eraser) and a "pro retouching team" for small tweaks.
Three things on Dreamwave's own pages don't line up, and they're worth knowing before you upload:
- How many photos to upload. The individual pages say one. The company headshots page FAQ says "At least 5, though 7 or 8 works best."
- Whether redos come with individual packages. The pricing page lists a free redo on Standard and two on Best Value. The company page lists "Free redo for every team member" with the note "Not available with individual packages."
- How many photos an individual gets. The pricing page lists 40, 60, or 100. The company FAQ compares team plans to individuals as "150 vs 75."
None of this looks like a trap. They look like pages written at different times, which is common on fast-moving AI product sites. But the redo question decides which tier to buy, so read your package's terms at checkout rather than trusting a comparison post, including this one.
No refund after upload, so the redo matters
Here is the line that shapes everything. The FAQ on Dreamwave's pricing page explains that each shoot runs on hardware it rents by the hour, that the shoot starts when you upload, and that after that point "it is too expensive for us to refund." It also says it can't refund when your input photos don't follow the guidelines, and asks you to contact support@dreamwave.ai with any questions or concerns.
That reasoning is stated plainly, and it changes how to read the pricing table:
- Starter ($35) has no redo and no touchups. If the likeness is off, you have 40 photos of someone who is nearly you and no refund. Contacting support is the only route left.
- Standard ($45) adds one free redo. For $10 more, that's the cheapest insurance on the page.
- Best Value ($99) adds a second redo and unlimited human touchups. That's the tier for when a human fixing a stray collar or an odd ear matters more than the extra 40 photos.
Since the refund window closes at upload, the selfie you choose is the whole bet. Use a recent, sharp, evenly lit photo with nothing on your face that isn't usually there. Our guide to taking professional headshots at home covers light and camera height, and the same advice makes a better input for any generator.
Dreamwave also runs a free headshot generator that, in its own words, "opens up a few spots each day, but they fill fast." If you can get a spot, that's the closest thing to a free trial.
Where Dreamwave wins
A fair comparison has to say this clearly:
- One selfie, finished gallery. You upload one photo and come back to dozens of options with styles and backgrounds already picked. You don't write prompts or choose models.
- Human touchups. The $99 tier includes unlimited touchups by people. 43frames has no human retouching at all.
- A default deletion clock. Dreamwave says it deletes your personal data by default within 30 days of no use, that it doesn't sell your data or train on it, and that you can delete your photos or account at any time. 43frames has no automatic deletion window. You can delete individual images and videos yourself, but deleting an account today means emailing privacy@43frames.com, because self-serve account deletion hasn't shipped yet. On this point Dreamwave is ahead.
- Teams. The company plan advertises 150 photos per person, a central admin dashboard, bulk invites, reminders, due dates, bulk download, a free redo per member, and seats that never expire. Its comparison table puts the cost at $49 to $59 per person. 43frames has no team dashboard.
If any of those is the reason you're shopping, Dreamwave is probably the better purchase.
How 43frames works instead
43frames is not a headshot package. It's an AI image and video studio you drive yourself, billed in credits, and it has two headshot paths. They're different things, so keep them apart.
Path 1: a headshot preset. Presets are visual templates, each with a written prompt and settings. The portrait set includes Professional Headshot, LinkedIn Headshot, CEO and Executive, Lawyer, Doctor, Nurse, Teacher, Therapist, Dentist, Actor, Author, and more. Pick one, attach your own photo as a reference (the model accepts 1 to 10), and the prompt asks it to keep your face, hairstyle, and skin tone. A preset does not train anything on your face. It edits from the photo you attach, and you check the likeness one image at a time.
- Cost: 2 credits per image at Standard quality, 3 at High, and 4 at Print. Headshot presets ask for 3 images by default, so a run at Standard is 6 credits, and you can lower the count.
Path 2: a custom model trained on your face. Upload 9 to 50 photos and train a model you can reuse later.
- Cost: Fast Training is 50 credits, once. Advanced Training is priced by training steps, and the quote appears before you start.
- Each image from a trained model is 2 credits. A trained model generates from text prompts. It doesn't take a reference photo.
The commercial side:
- 10 starter credits for new accounts, once, with no card required. That covers five Standard preset images, or one preset run of three with credits left over. It doesn't cover training.
- One-time packs via Polar: $10 for 100 credits, $18 for 200, $45 for 500, $80 for 1,000. No subscription, and credits don't expire. Current rates are on the pricing page.
- A generation that fails returns its credits. Spent credits are otherwise not refundable. Refunds of unused credits are reviewed case by case through support@43frames.com, and statutory rights still apply.
- Commercial use is allowed, subject to applicable law and the upstream providers' terms. We don't promise exclusivity or non-infringement.
The cost comparison, done honestly. Dreamwave's Standard package is $45 for 60 photos plus a redo. On 43frames, $18 buys 200 credits: enough to train a Fast model (50) and generate 75 images from it (150), with the model still yours afterward. But 75 images you steer yourself are not the same as 60 a service curated for you. Some won't be keepers, and nobody picks the best ones for you. The real advantage is smaller and more practical: on 43frames, the first result you look at costs 2 credits, not $35.
The honest costs of our model: no curated gallery, no human retouching, no promised turnaround, no team dashboard, and no automatic deletion window. Results depend on your reference photo and, for trained models, on your training set. A preset with a reference photo doesn't guarantee likeness either. Check every face at full size.

Which one fits
- You want a finished gallery this afternoon and don't want to learn anything: Dreamwave. Buy Standard rather than Starter, because the redo is the only safety net.
- You care about a person fixing small details: Dreamwave's Best Value tier. We don't offer human retouching.
- You want to check your likeness before you commit money: 43frames. Starter credits cover several preset images, and a bad result costs 2 credits.
- You'll want new headshots again next year: train a custom model once and reuse it, instead of buying another package.
- You're rolling out a whole team: Dreamwave's company plan is built for it. Our AI headshots for teams guide covers doing it with a shared preset and a written spec instead.
- You're still deciding between AI and a photographer: AI headshots vs. a photographer does that math, including where the photographer wins.
